The fusion of high culture and black metal at the highest level – Satyricon & Munch

Satyricon & Munch features two of Norway’s most renowned artists, Edvard Munch and Satyricon, united in a groundbreaking work of art that melts the boundaries between high culture and black metal music. The 56-minute instrumental work, created by Satyricon mastermind Satyr, is conceived as a musical work submits to no stylistic boundaries and goes far beyond any genre convention.

Even though the piece was written for the Satyricon & Munch art exhibition, it clearly has the emotional depth to make its impact in any setting outside the exhibition space. The new, unique art exhibition, highly acclaimed by critics and fans, was on display at the Munch Museum in Oslo until Aug. 28, 2022.

Satyr explains Satyricon & Munch: “The musical work Satyricon & Munch features my musical reflection on the emotions Edvard Munch’s works triggered in me while working on the art exhibition. I have the utmost appreciation for his focus on emotion over simple technique, his enthusiasm to experiment, and his determination to go his own way. These core values are exactly the same as Satyricon’s, which is even more important in this case.
