With Please, Pet Shop Boys presented an instantly resounding debut album in March 1986, which immediately played its way to #3 in the UK and lasted a total of 82 weeks in the UK Official Album Charts. In the U.S., it catapulted into the Top 10 and was certified platinum. In Germany, it initially only made the Top-40, but the singles West End Girls and Suburbia catapulted to #2 in the German singles charts. In total, Please has sold over three million copies to date. The album featured 10 songs in the original version, including the first single West End Girls, which went to #1 in the UK and US and went gold. in 1987, Please won the BRIT Award in the “Best Single” category and the Ivor Novello Award in the “Best International Hit” category. A little later, in 2005 to be exact, the jury of the British Academy Of Composers and Songwriters gave the song the Ivor Novello Award as “Song Of The Decade”. Love Comes Quickly, Opportunity (Let’s Make Lots Of Money) and Suburbia reached Top 20 status in the UK singles charts upon release.
