Candlemass was founded in Stockholm in 1984 by bassist and songwriter Leif Edling and is known for its influential Epic Doom Metal sound, which in turn evolved from the masterful Black Sabbath. After the legendary and genre-defining debut album “Epicus Doomicus Metallicus” (1986), “Nightfall” was released just a year later and is considered an absolute classic along with “Epicus…”, having made a significant impact on the scene that still exists today with its incomparable melodic heavy doom and the creation of classic anthems such as “Dark are the Veils of Death” and “Well of Souls”.

On “Nightfall” bassist and main songwriter Leif Edling was joined by vocalist Jan Alfredo Marcolin, better known as Messiah Marcolin, who became an established and highly respected vocalist throughout the metal world, with his distinctive and theatrical tones becoming an icon of the band until his departure in the early 1990s.
