“The Last Stand” is the follow-up to their successful 2014 album “Heroes”, which reached number one in the Swedish charts, number two in Finland and number three in Germany.
This in turn gives rise to high expectations for the new album. Joakim Brodén (vocals, keyboard), Pär Sundström (electric bass), Chris Rörland (electric guitar), Thobbe Englund (electric guitar) and Hannes Van Dahl (drums) recorded a total of eleven songs. As with their predecessors, they worked with Peter Tägtgren in his Abyss Studio. The final mastering was done by Jonas Kjellgren.
As usual, Sabaton dedicate themselves to an area from the wide field of war events on “The Last Stand”. The name gives it away: it’s about the last stand – a topic that the band say they have been interested in for a long time.
As far as their music on the new album is concerned, the Swedes have once again managed to surprise their fans with new, fresh ideas. The best example is the song “Blood of Bannockburn”, the second single release after “The Lost Battalion”. Here Sabaton experiment with bagpipes and organ.
Sabaton fans know what they have in their band. But even after eight albums, the band still manages to surprise its listeners. “The Last Stand” is the proof.
