“Malina” (2017) is the fifth studio album by Norway’s groundbreaking modern rock/metal group LEPROUS! The stunning hour-long effort was recorded in Sweden by David Castillo / Ghostward Studios and mixed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Devin Townsend, Katatonia). “Malina” is set to be a change in direction in more ways than one. Right away, you can see that the cover art is more colourful and mysterious than in the past. The album itself has been nothing short of a labor of love. It took 4 times as many days in the studio to record as past albums, as the band was certain that the sound they wanted would be found in the recording studio, and not in a digital mask that would be applied during the mixing stage. “We wanted it to sound like it sounded”, the band comments. “We did not want to “digitalise” the sound. This album needs to sound more alive, more organic and more dynamic. The longer into the process the more obsessed we got with this idea”. The result is a milestone in the band’s history and one of the most fascinating progressive albums you will hear this year!
